How does the GPS tracking work?
The tracking device installed in the vehicle retrieves GPS coordinates from the Ground Positioning System (GPS) satellites. This information along with the speed of the vehicle is stored and uploaded via GPRS or SMS depending on the available GSM signal. This information is stored and interpreted by the Track Fleet online GPS tracking software and over-layed onto a map. This allows you to see exactly where the vehicle is at any time, as well as the previous positions and tracks.
I want to track one unit to test your system, is this possible?
Yes, if you would like to track one unit on a test basis a free service is available. Simply purchase and install a Track Fleet Tracker or equivalent and contact us once installed into your vehicle. You will then recieve a username and password to login into our system and you can use it as a fully fledged account. Please note that the use of this type of account is for testing purposes, one account and one tracking unit will be permitted per customer.
What happens with information about my location?
Data with all your tracks and locations is stored within our database, this information is only accessable to you by using your login details, so keep them safe!
For how long does Track Fleet store my tracks information?
Track Fleet will keep your tracks data by default for 3 months, this can be extended depending on the needs of the client. The free service will only keep tracks for 1 month.
I have a GPS tracker already; can I use it with your GPS tracking service?
Yes, if you have your own compatable GPS tracking device, you can use the Track Fleet platform to track your devices. Please have a look at the compatable device list and the necessary settings you will need to set it up.
What kind of information does my Smartphone sends to your site?
Information that is transferred from your GPS-enabled smartphone to our server includes just your current location coordinates and altitude. No other data is transferred from your GPS device to Track Fleet server, unless you specify it.
How often does my data transferred to your GPS tracking site?
This is dependant per GPS device and their configuration. It must be kept in mind that it costs money everytime the GPS tracker uploads data to our servers as it uses the GSM network. So a very frequent upload time, whilst more accurate can cost you more. We recommend an interval of 3 - 5 mins per upload. (This data fee is included in the package deals available)
